This net has been in operation for about 10 years. It seeks to promote the amateur radio service by providing training in technical skills, sharing information on topics related to amateur radio, and by providing an opportunity to practice effective on-air procedures. Each week, TIPS net features a unique program topic, sometimes including a special guest speaker. Time will also be set aside for those with questions (about a project or a concern) related to amateur radio. If time permits, "Swap Shop" follows the program topic. Here, hams are welcome to announce ham gear that is for sale or wanted.
TIPS Net is carried on over 20 linked repeaters throughout Southern New England, with The Linked Repeater System of Connecticut being the central hub. In South Coastal Massachusetts, the primary link for this net is 145.490 Fairhaven Repeater. New England VoIP SKYWARN Net

145.490 Fairhaven Repeater |

Robert D. Macedo, KD1CY |

| Description: |
This net utilizes Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) to help support the National Weather Service (NWS) Taunton in the SKYWARN program. SKYWARN is the NWS volunteer weather spotting program where public citizens send reports to weather meteorologists to help them make a precise prediction to protect life and property. Rob, KD1CY founded the Taunton SKYWARN Amateur Radio Club (WX1BOX) for this purpose, which links NWS Taunton directly to amateur radio.
When severe weather breaks in our region, amateurs gather at NWS Taunton and activate the New England VoIP SKYWARN Net. The net has a dedicated EchoLink conference server *NEW-ENG* (node number 9123) and a dedicated IRLP sub-channel on the New England Reflector (node number 9123). At times when the net is active for a threat (especially on South Coastal Massachusetts), the 145.490 Fairhaven Repeater may also be linked in. |
